September 9, Tillamook

Today Diane and I, along with our Wagonmasters Dean and Cheryl, reconned the Tillamook area.  We started by visiting two cheese factories, Tillamook Cheese was spectacular - we watched a movie then went up to second floor where we could watch the assembly lines through glass windows.  Later we sampled the various flavors of cheese then left the area (we will again tour when our guests arrive next week).

We traveled to Bay City to watch oyster shellers shucking the meat from shells.  Quite an operation.

From there we drove along the coast, stopping at several scenic areas.  Cape Mears has the highest, shortest lighthouse on the Oregon coast.  The light house is only 38 feet tall but sets on a very high hill, thus the highest, shortest.

At the same area is the Octogon Tree

and a view of the Arch Rocks, where three separate islands make up a federal sea lion and bird refuge.
