Napa Valley Wine Train, October 4

Today we experienced a great dining, dome car ride up and down the Napa Valley.  We boarded the train at the Napa train station after a 20-minute wine tasting seminar.

                            The meals were excellent!

The galley was long, narrow, and very adequate.

Other cars were quite elaborate.

We did have one complaint; this fellow asked where the recliners were for his after noon nap!

Bodega Bay, October 4

Today we explored

Bodega Bay is famous as the location of Alfred Hitchcock's movie, "The Birds."

Along the dock of the Tides Wharf Restaurant...

                                                          We saw a fish processing plant

                with a section of a sword fish...........................

From Bodega we drove to the Korbel Winery, home of the first champagne makers in the US.

We had a great guide provide the history of the Korbel family and how they evolved from cigar box manufacturers to champagne makers.

10,000 to 20,000 gallon barrels (old style).

Newer style, about 50-gallon barrels.

Like us, aging makes us better.

San Francisco, October 3

Our 45-minute bus ride to the Golden Gate bridge was well worth the time.

  After crossing (from the north) we had time to take pictures and meet our guide for the day.

Our next "stop" was a ride on the famous San Francisco cable car.

We made an appetizing stop in China Town for lunch.

We drove past a lot of interesting buildings, beginning with the city hall, which has the fourth largest dome in the world.

There are lotsa Victorian homes in San Francisco.

Fort Bragg, October 1

Today wwe rode the Skunk Train, along streams and through the hills and woods.

The Skunk Train got its name from the odor it made in earlier days.

We stopped for lunch.  They are getting ready for Halloween.

Fort Bragg, September 30

On our way to Fort Bragg (CA), we stopped to visit the Grandfather Tree and One-Log House.

The One-Log House was actually lived in and towed around the USA.

Avenue of the Giants, September 29, 2010

While camping at Red Crest, we did a lot of traveling on the Avenue of the Giants and made many great visits.  Our first stop was at a giant redwood tree "drive thru."
